Traditional Maltese instruments - A presentation on local pipes and wind instruments.
A musician and researcher, Francesco Sultana shall be delivering an introductory workshop on local musical instruments. In it he will highlight the various sounds, musical repertoire, development and construction of Malta's foremost traditional folk wind instruments. These include the reed pipe żummara, the cane flute flejguta or fifra and the bagpipe żaqq. During the workshop, participants will be treated to a selection of archival images and recordings of the instruments digitised by Magna Żmien, with a hands-on experience in crafting some components of wind instruments from cane.
